The Senior Associate Dean of Engineering (The Ohio State University Columbus), John Horack and the Associate Director of CELISCA (University Rostock), Heidi Fleischer agreed to establish a new international research program. The researchers will explore a combined approach of multispectral camera based remote sensing data acquired from space with high throughput process measurements of samples from regional plants, soil and water. CELISCA and OSU will work jointly on this scientific project.

CELISCA is adapting modern liquid handling robots to sample prep coupled with spectrometric measurement systems for quantitative determination of compounds in complex matrices. In analysenmesstechnischen Laboren erfolgt die Probenvorbereitung noch weitgehend manuell. Zweiarm-Roboter können hier assistieren – und auch weitere typische Laboraufgaben übernehmen. Im einfachsten Fall werden die vom Roboter zu bedienenden Geräte angepasst, eine Alternative dazu bietet die direkte Übernahme der Handhabungs- und Manipulationsaufgaben durch geeignete robotische Komponenten.

Our Research Group "Processes & Measurement" has been active from 2013 continuously on the worldwide recognized IEEE flagship conferences of i2MTC. The conference this year in New Zealand was held faced with the new metrology standard's developments. Michael de Podesta spoke about "Redefining the kilogram, the kelvin, the ampere and the mole: why you should care even though you won’t notice" Our contributions have been 2 papers in the field of automated measurement in complex processes.

Messen, was im Weltraum ist.... Ein neues Projekt bei CELISCA ist in Vorbereitung. Es soll Stäube aus dem Weltall und aus irdischen Quellen untersuchen - quantitative Ergebnisse zum Vorhandensein einzelner Elemente des Periodensystems sind gefragt. Schüler des innerstädtischen Gymnasiums und Studenten der Ingeniuer- und Naturwissenschaften der Rostocker Universität bereiten sich als 600-Jahr-Feier-Initiative auf ein Projekt gemeinsam mit der Ohio State University (USA) vor.

Automation ist ein Sammelbegriff für alle Methoden, Maschinen unabhängig von Menschen zu betreiben. Automatisierte Systeme (typischerweise Roboter und Autosampler) werden häufig in den Life Sciences eingesetzt, insbesondere wenn ein hoher Durchsatz erwünscht ist, beispielsweise bei der Microarray-Technologie oder der Screening. Vergleichbare Systeme für die analytische Chemie sind bisher noch sehr rar, allerdings steigt der Bedarf an automatisierten Systemen für analytische Messungen stetig.
